The Wheatland J1 School District is committed to helping to cultivate great citizens, providing a personalized approach to each individual learner and preparing our students for life beyond the walls of Wheatland. We believe that meaningful learning happens in responsive environments where learners are engaged, students bring strengths and experiences to learning, and purposeful assessment drives instruction and affects learning.
The department of Teaching and Learning informs the design and implementation of all Wheatland power standards. It works within design thinking model to focus on relevant instruction that is student centered and student lead. Teaching and Learning organizes and provides professional learning opportunities and specialized training to professional staff who are constantly growing in skill and performance.
Our department also coordinates and implements state and local assessments in order to guide instruction and progress toward the academic standards. Our teachers base important decisions they make on evidence of learning in the classroom and data. These assessments help assist us in personalizing instruction to our students’ different learning styles.
Curriculum and instruction is meant to be relevant and purposeful to the students we serve. Instruction must be engaging and motivational. Personal connections should be made between the curriculum and instruction to help our students be motivated to learn and feel valued as a member of the group. Goal setting helps students understand what they can do and where they can go. Assessments show growth and achievement. The relationships between the students and the educators are the key to success for all.
